While Florida is one of the many places in the United States that many people want to live, it also ranks up to be one of the places with the most affordable housing deficits. In the year 2017, the Joint Center for Housing Studies (JCHS) of Harvard University concluded that 29% of households were cost-burdened. In other words, of this 29%, more than half of their income was being spent on housing. Additionally, out of the 50 states, Florida ranks 44th in the nation for its accessibility to healthcare. As a matter of fact, Florida also ranks at 47th in the nation for having uninsured adults who suffer from mental illness. To battle these statistics, Florida Community Loan Fund (FCLF) will help finance those who are suffering.

As a mission-based nonprofit established back in 1994, Florida Community Loan Fund’s mission is to improve the communities of low-income citizens all throughout Florida. Florida Community Loan Fund finances multiple activities for those living in Florida. FCLF finances affordable housing, supportive housing, community facilities, economic development projects, food access projects, and projects that are environmentally friendly, green, and sustainable. All of these projects are aimed to help those who are below 80% of the Area Median Income.

With their expertise in community development lending, FCLF can provide capital for their borrowers. As a matter of fact, Florida Community Loan Fund will deliver around $40 million in financing from their Community Development Lending program. Not only will the Community Development program contribute to the $40 million, the New Tax Credits programs will also help. With all of the money being collected, Florida Community Loan Fund can start helping Floridians build better communities. While leveraging all resources, Florida Community Loan Fund is steadily helping those in Florida. By the end of the 2018 fiscal year, they have produced over 13,600 people with affordable housing.
