Photo Caption: The people here in the Compound don’t have access to a lot of things to be self-sufficient. One of these many things is access to nutritional food, but in this picture it illustrates a solution to the problem. Given to us and taken by the IsleGo Missions staff, a group of four women are currently putting some food together. In the middle of the photo the women are putting the food into bags and placing them in the middle of the table. Afterwards, when all of the food has been collected it will be ready to distribute among the people in the Compound. In the left side of the picture is one of the 4 ladies preparing to distribute the food. She is wearing a yellow long sleeved shirt as she is getting some food out of a bag. Standing to her left is another volunteer helping out. She is wearing a black t-shirt as well as a pair of blue jeans. In addition, the young woman is wearing a red bandana with black tiger stripes. Across the table is another one of the four ladies. This young woman is wearing a pink tank top and some black pants. She has a blue bracelet around her left hand as well as a black shower cap on her head. Lastly, the woman in the middle of the group is Corinne Cooper. Corinne is wearing a tan jacket that have cufflinks in a dark blue color. As well as her cufflinks, the collar on her Jacket also has the same color pattern. Furthermore, she is also wearing a pink shirt under her jacket as well as her earrings. Corinne Cooper started the IsleGo Missions back in 1992 with her husband Dusty Cooper. Jamaica is without a doubt one of the most beautiful places in the world to visit. It has a lot of beautiful sandy beaches along its coast line, and hotel and villas that look out onto the ocean. Many tourist visit and love all the scenery and the friendly people on the island. In addition, its official language Patois has said to be pleasing to some people’s ears. It being pleasing to people makes them want to learn it. Although Jamaica has all of these things and more that attract people, there are things behind the scenes that people don’t get to see very often. In parts of Jamaica there are communities that are being plagued by poverty, violence, addiction problems, hunger and many more things. Although many of the people outside of Jamaica don’t see this, the people from IsleGo Missions do and are willing to help.
To start off, the people from IsleGo Missions are going to create their first Hope Center. This Hope Center will be built in a squatter community known as "The Compound". A squatter community is a place where people unlawfully occupy an uninhabited piece of land. Like other communities, The Compound is being overrun by violence, sexual abuse, a lack of food, poverty, illiteracy, and many other things. Here in the compound about 80% of the children live in single parent shacks and there is barely any government assistance being provided to the community.
The Centers goal will be to provide the necessary things to combat all of the problems there in the community. The center will provide vocational training, employment, food and nutrition for the young kids and a vast majority of other things. The main goal of IsleGo Missions is to spread hope in the compound. To know they have met their goal, IsleGo Missions has assigned representatives in the local community council to make sure the goals are met. IsleGo already has had a similar facility built in Steer Town and are looking to repeat to help those in need
