CRS Mahenge School, Tanzania
Project Category: Child Welfare
This picture was taken outside of Tanzania and was provided to us by the Catholic Relief Services. This building is part of the Mahenge School that houses the labs. The building is under construction since as of the time of the photo, the building has some structural damage. In addition, the grass plain in front of the building has dead grass and pieces of wood laying out in front of it. Furthermore, there are piles of dirt all along the front of the building. There is one patch of dirt on the right side of the picture and another located directly in front of the doors to the lab. The building also is made out of bricks and has five columns located in the front of the building. Not to mention, the top of the building is also white in color. The labs in this building are used for three subjects, biology, physics, and chemistry. These three subjects are very crucial in the education of the young girls in Tanzania. These three subjects are used in a lot of the areas of everyday life. For instance, chemistry is very important to teach these young girls since everything is made of chemicals. Knowing even the basics of chemistry can help you cook, mix chemicals, give plants proper nutrients, and last but not least how to effectively use drugs. As for physics, it is the basis of how the world we live in operates. Most of the technology that the students in the Mahenge School will use came from Physics in one way or another. All the electricity in the building came from exploration in physics. As for biology, it literally means the study of life. In the biology labs the girls will understand how plants grow, the functions of the human body, and even the functions of animal bodies.

Education plays an important role in every single person's life no matter where they live in the world. There are a lot of things that people cannot do without being educated. For instance, if you were never educated on how to properly talk your native tongue you wouldn't be able to speak to people. Furthermore, if no one educated you on what fire was you might think it was caused by some sort of magic trick. Even though education plays an important role in our lives, it is even more important that the people who teach and educate us are taken care of. All around the world teachers are waking up and going out every day to educate their fellow students. Although in some parts of the world teachers don't have good housing to live in. One of the places where teachers don't have good housing is in Tanzania. To combat this problem the Catholic Relief Services and the Diocese of Mahenge will build houses.

The house that will be built, will be for the teachers in Tanzania since they live in rural areas. A total of six houses will be built in the year of 2020. With these houses built teachers will have a safe place to live. With the teachers taken care of, it will allow another problem to be solved. The girls in the school need to be educated so their futures can be bright. With them being educated, they will be empowered young females who can handle anything in life. During the year of 2015, the project has already started with 150 girls. The school where the teachers teach is small and renovations will need to be made. Six teachers and their families will be served by the project. The plan for the school will be to take 120 girls each year and educate them. So with the help of the new houses and renovations for the school, there will be stability in the teaching staff.
