In the last 6 months, the GHOPE program has increased the youth services in its community. They have done this by providing afterschool tutoring, the Pre-Collegiate Program and their mentoring program. The after school tutoring takes place at the Westside and the Eastside facilities. The free tutoring sessions are facilitated by teachers Monday-Thursday. The tutoring sessions help the youth with their core subjects, the ACT, SAT, and the ASVAB. The students in the spring traveled to Atlanta and toured the oldest HBCU within the Atlanta University Center. Furthermore, the students visited the Tyler Perry Studios, MLK Cultural Arts Center and childhood home. During the summer, the students participated in a paid internship program. In the program, they took a tour around Flagler College and St. Augustine.

All the students throughout the years were given opportunities to get experience in certain trades from different organizations. One of the organizations was a group of Barbers from the community that conducted a 4-week workshop. This workshop to the students how to become a licensed barber by learning the fundamentals. The workshop also broke down the various programs needed to get their state license. Furthermore, a mobile detailing 3-week workshop was conducted by community leaders were in the industry. The workshop taught the students how to become business owners and to develop a sustainable business. The students were instructed on the steps to starting a business that fit their talents and passions. After figuring out what their passions were, they were given ideas on how they should market their business as well as the best location to establish it.

The mentoring sessions still take place at the Westside Community Center with weekly sessions. The sessions focus on building resilience while encouraging the students. The topics in the session range from community awareness, engagement and leadership, self-sufficient, appropriate decision-making skills, finances, and stopping criminal activities. Their annual “Boys II Men Social” was held to fight the violence in the community and to build a better relationship between the community leaders and the youth. With a stronger connection being built between the youth and the leaders, this would encourage other business to implement additional youth programs.

For over 20 years Goldsboro Front Porch has been a household name in the community. Before the start of 2021 school year, Goldsboro Front Porch Council with the Seminole County Sheriff’s Office held their annual backpack and school supply give-away with local businesses. In October they held their Annual Octoberfest providing food, music, prizes, and games to the community. The Sanford police provided a free library to the community and the Health Department gave out information on breast cancer screenings.
