Volusia County like most of the world has seen an influx in the amount of people who are homeless. They do not have any income to feed or clothe themselves and as their description states, they do not have any home to live in. To stop the population of homeless from rising, the Frist Step Shelter has decided to act. They opened on December 11th, 2019 as a homeless shelter for adults who were single. From then on, they have continued to build more shelters to give people a place to stay. The First Step Shelter is not only a place for where the homeless can get a hot meal and sleep, it is also a step in the right direction to a better life. In addition, they are offered medical & counseling services, and are helped when it comes time to get a new job and house.

The shelter that they opened in December had a capacity to hold 120 beds, but only have 45 beds. By hiring a development director, they hope to receive fundraising to reach the capacity of 120 beds. The Development Director will allow First Step Shelter to achieve their financial objectives by building relationships with cities in Volusia County. This will allow the First Step Shelter to have the funds to purchase more beds to achieve the max capacity of 120 beds.
