Kid's House Seminole
Project Category: Child Welfare
The associated picture was taken and provided by the Kids House of Seminole in one of their rooms. The room is painted in two colors with a dado rail dividing the colors. The top half of the wall is painted light green while the bottom half is painted light brown. In addition, on the walls are two pictures, where one of them is on the right side of the wall and the other on the left side. Furthermore, in between the two pictures is a lamb sitting on a small stand with a clipboard placed right next to it. Towards the bottom right of the picture is a decorative plant placed in a basket. In the middle of the picture are two chairs facing each other. Both chairs are dark brown in color and have two white pillows sitting in them. However the chair on the right side has a blanket laid on one of its sides. Although this room looks very simple its intended use is far from simple. This room is used by the staff members in the Kids House of Seminole to conduct interviews with kids who come in. This room allows the staff to conduct their interviews in a more child friendly environment. The interview will allow the authorities and the staff members to know all the major and minor details surrounding the kid's situation. By the same token, this allows the kids to feel at ease and to let the truth come out to minimize the trauma from their abuse. In this most pivotal point in the child's life, this room can be the turning point they need to feel safe and to release all the trauma built up. In addition, this room is also monitored by staff members in a different room, given the fact that there is a camera already installed into the room.

You often hear how adults in this day and age go through so much trauma in their lives. In particular, these adults go through different kinds of relationships that become abusive. Whether it is physical abuse or mental abuse, many people suffer from it day in and day out. Although many adults are being abused or have been abused, they are not the only ones. At the same time, children all over the world are being abused both physically and mentally. Crimes that are directed toward children can happen between the hours of 9-5. Although this may be true, additional crimes against kids can happen outside of these hours. That is where the Kid's House Seminole steps in to help out.

Kids House Seminole understands fully that kids get abused just as much as adults. In response they have created a system to where they can rehabilitate those who have been abused. Most of their kids are from the Seminole County area. During the previous fiscal year 75% of the kids were from ages 0-12, and the other 25% were age from 13-18. Of this population, 52% were African American, 15% Hispanic, 32% Caucasian and the last remaining was a mix of other races. In addition, 57% of the children were female and the remaining were male.

In the case there is a situation, the staff members are on-call always available to work with the authorities. Afterwards, Kids House Seminole collects all the necessary evidence in case they need it for legal reasons. Coupled with collecting evidence, the Kids House Seminole conducts interviews and performing exams in way that'll help minimize the trauma. All of the workers at the Kids House Seminole are the friendly face that help ease the pain of the children during this crucial time in their life.
