Christian HELP
Project Category: Adult Readiness
In the Central Florida area there are many who still need a job even though the unemployment rate has reached below 3%. The photo provided by Christian HELP, shows us first-hand just how many people can come to their office on a daily basis. In the center of the photo lies the waiting room of the Christian HELP agency. At this moment in time the waiting room is filled with potential clients to the point that some people have to wait outside the main office. In the top left corner there are two job seeking clients, one who is an older gentleman and the other is a young woman. Directly in front of them is another client who is standing next to the door for employees only, patiently waiting for her turn. In addition, next to her are two more ladies seeking a job, one in a red long sleeve shirt and the other in a black tank top. On the far left of the photo stands another client in a green sweater. Directly behind the lady in the red sweater and the two young woman to the left and the right of her, sits six more women eagerly waiting for Christian HELP. On the far left is one woman who is looking at the two individuals standing next to the exit. Sitting next to her is another woman wearing a white shirt with stripes that run down her shoulder. As for the rest of the women, one of them is wearing a black shirt with openings on the shoulders, another wearing a grey shirt with her baby stroller, and for the last two, one is wearing a black shirt and the other a blue polo shirt. Although these people are here seeking a job they all come from different parts of life, and Christian HELP is here to help all of them.

Even though unemployment has reached below 3%, there are many people in the Central Florida area who still don’t have employment. The underemployed and unemployed in the Central Florida area, are generally made up of people from the Seminole and Orange Counties. Furthermore, from these counties, there are single and married parents, entry level workers, executives, both educated and uneducated. Of these different groups, the people come from many different races and nationalities. Christian HELPs main focus is to equip the underemployed and unemployed with the knowledge to get a job.

For over 26 years, the Christian HELP agency has been giving those who can’t find a job hope. As the only Christian ministry in the Central Florida area, they are helping to fix the problem of unemployment. Firstly, care managers meet with those seeking a job on a one-on-one basis in for 9 months. Christian HELP listens to their needs, identifies their abilities, interests, and their general knowledge. Afterwards, Christian HELP creates a customized plan for them that will point them in the right direction to acquire a job. In addition to the customized plan, care managers help job seekers create a resume that is appealing to jobs. Secondly, Christian HELP provides practice interviews for job seekers. To ensure that they will have a great interview, care managers hold confidence sessions and personal coaching to boost their chances of getting a job. For as long as it takes Christian HELP keeps records of all their clients just in case the process takes longer or someone comes back looking for a job.

In case the process takes longer or someone comes back looking for a job. Christian HELP uses every resource at its disposal to ensure that those in need of a job are taken care of. They look to the community for support every year, and although the community provides, positions usually run as long as there is funding.
